這首歌由 Bart Howard 寫於1954年，是首華爾茲舞曲，也是他最有名的一首作品。
 
最初的名字叫做 "In Other Words"，由當時他工作的酒店的駐店歌手 Felicia Sanders 演唱，當時並未公開發行。同年，歌手 Kaye Ballard 錄製，應用於電視節目 "The Mothers-in-law"，並由 Decca 唱片發行。1956年，歌手 Portia Nelson 再次錄製發行，同年，歌手 Johnny Mathis 發行的版本，則首次將來歌名改為 "Fly Me to the Moon"。然後由 Peggy Lee 於 1960 年演唱。
 
Frank Sinatra 在 1964 年發行這首歌，是最有名的版本。其他唱過的歌手還有很多，像是 Patty Page、Paul Anka、Tony Bennett、Nat King Cole、Doris Day、Diana Krall 等等。美國宇航局曾把這首歌的唱片，通過阿波羅飛船送上月球，使得 "Fly Me to the Moon" 成為第一首在月球上播放的人類歌曲。庵野秀明監制的動畫新世紀福音戰士(簡稱EVA)的片尾曲也是這首曲子。黎明、宇多田光都翻唱過這首。
